Summary of discussion
-
Broad agreement that the lay summary provided a good overview of the consortium and its focus on transportability for the intended study
-
The planned analysis has the potential to identify characteristics linked to improved outcomes, supporting more informed clinical decisions.
-
The application consolidated benefits for patients, clinicians, and Health Technology Assessment bodies.
-
The panel raised several comments on other aspects of the application, including:
-
How will the differences between populations be captured in this research
-
It was noted that the researchers will prioritise demographic and clinical characteristics and the treatment received. Such a summary should provide a sense of similarity/dissimilarity of the population.

-
How are the intentions and outcomes of research disseminated to patients?
-
The group discussed that the Flatiron FORUM team will aim to disseminate findings through publications as well as presentations at major scientific conferences, such as ISPOR and ESMO, to reach the wider scientific community. In addition, the group will inform the Patient Voices Panel about the study and its potential impact.
-
The panel noted that, for key conferences, it would be valuable to review the patient track to identify sessions focused on making research findings accessible and relevant to patients. They also recommended developing summaries that provide a high-level overview of the study and its results using language that is easily understood by patients and the public.
